The best hostel in town, right by the bay with great views and ten minutes walk from the centre. Also offered are bikes for rent, and free use of kayaks, boogie boards and courtesy transport.
The Rough Guide NZ
I loved my stay here. The hostel is unique - it's set up like a bunch of flats, so my private room was in basically an apartment with a kitchen and bathroom shared with a couple of other bedrooms. It's cool cause the facilities aren't so crowded, but also feels like you have housemates.

Went there in Winter with a few of my UNI friends. Seeing a whole group, they decided to upgrade us to an entire house. Additionally I was very pleased with their assistance in local sightseeing, as well as the condition of the house, which was fabulous!
